Intercession for Ministry Leaders
Praying for spiritual protection, wisdom, and Kingdom authority for those leading God's people.
Read Prayer →"This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.' For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
Matthew 6:9-14
The prayer Jesus taught His disciples begins with personal needs but has a much larger vision at its center:"Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
This is the heartbeat of prayer for Kingdom advancement. It is intercession that looks beyond our personal circumstances to the larger purposes of God—the spreading of His Kingdom, the establishment of His will on earth, the transformation of hearts and systems and nations to reflect the reality of God's reign.
When we pray for Kingdom advancement, we are joining God in His primary work: establishing His rule and righteousness on earth, one heart, one circumstance, one nation at a time.
Our Father in heaven,
Your kingdom is the fullness of all I desire. Your will is the greatest good that could possibly be accomplished. I come before You today to intercede for the advancement of Your Kingdom on earth. Not my will, but Yours be done.
I pray that Your Kingdom would come in power and truth in every place it is resisted and forgotten. I pray that the blind would be given sight to see the reality of Your reign. I pray that captives would be set free— free from the lies that enslave them, free from the darkness that oppresses them, free to live as citizens of Your Kingdom instead of slaves to the enemy's schemes.
I intercede for the Church—that it would become a clear, undeniable expression of Kingdom reality on earth. I pray for clarity of vision—that we would see clearly what Your Kingdom looks like and what it is meant to accomplish. I pray for boldness—that we would speak truth without fear, that we would exercise the authority Christ has given us without hesitation or apology.
I pray for unity—that the body of Christ would move as one body, advancing Your Kingdom with singular vision and shared conviction. I pray for purity—that we would be cleansed of the compromises and self-interests that keep us from radical obedience to Your purposes. I pray for power—that the Holy Spirit would move through us with signs and wonders and demonstrations of Kingdom reality that transform hearts and circumstances.
I intercede for the spread of the gospel—that good news of Christ would reach every nation, every people, every language group. I pray for faithful proclaimers who will risk everything to share the good news. I pray for open hearts that would receive the message. I pray for the power of the gospel to transform individuals, families, communities, and nations.
I bind the spiritual darkness that works to suppress the gospel message. I loose the power of the Holy Spirit to open eyes, soften hearts, and draw people into relationship with Christ. I declare that the gospel will advance, that the Kingdom of God will expand, and that Jesus's lordship will be acknowledged in every corner of creation.
I pray for those in positions of authority—civil leaders, political rulers, military commanders, and those who shape culture. I pray that Your Kingdom would influence their decisions, that righteousness would guide their choices, that they would use their authority to establish justice and defend the vulnerable.
I particularly intercede for spiritual leaders—pastors, prophets, teachers, and those who shepherd God's people. I pray for wisdom beyond their years, for courage to speak truth even when it costs them, for integrity that matches their public ministry, for hearts that remain fixed on Your purposes rather than personal gain.
I intercede for the systems and structures of this world that perpetuate injustice, oppression, and darkness. I pray for exposure of hidden corruption. I pray for the breakdown of systems built on greed, violence, and exploitation. I pray for the establishment of systems that reflect Your Kingdom values—justice, mercy, compassion, and human dignity.
I recognize that the ultimate battle is spiritual—that systems of darkness are empowered by spiritual forces of evil. Therefore I bind those spiritual forces. I declare the authority of Christ over every system that opposes His Kingdom. I loose the transformative power of the Holy Spirit to establish Kingdom values in every sphere of human activity.
I lift up to You every nation on earth. I intercede for those suffering under oppression and darkness. I pray for those who do not know Christ. I pray for the nations that have forgotten You, that have turned to idols and false gods, that have embraced deception and injustice.
I declare that no nation is beyond Your reach. No darkness is too deep for Your light. No hardness of heart is too great for Your redemptive power. I speak forth Kingdom advancement in every nation. I declare that You will be glorified among all peoples.
Ultimately, I intercede that Your Kingdom would come in fullness. That Your will would be done completely on earth as it is in heaven. That righteousness would flow like a river, and that justice would flow like an ever-flowing stream. That the earth would be filled with the knowledge of Your glory as the waters cover the sea.
I know this is the prayer You have invited me to pray. This is the intercession You delight in. This is the vision You have placed in the hearts of Your people. And so I pray with faith and authority, knowing that You are working all things according to Your purposes, and that the Kingdom will come.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.
Amen and amen.
Slowly and Meditatively: This prayer is meant to be prayed with deliberate slowness. Pause after each section. Let the Holy Spirit bring specific situations, nations, and people to your mind. Add personalized intercession for what God brings to your attention.
With Specific Names: As you read each section, name specific people, groups, nations, and circumstances. Replace "the nations" with the actual nation names and the specific needs you're aware of. Make this prayer concrete and personal.
With Authority: Remember that you are praying with the authority Christ has given you. Speak your intercession with conviction. Bind spiritual darkness. Loose the power of the Kingdom. Don't pray timidly or tentatively—pray as one who knows you have authority in Christ.
Corporately: This prayer is especially powerful when prayed with others. Gather with intercessors. Take turns leading different sections. Add collective prayers and declarations. Allow time for silent intercession.
Regularly: Make this a rhythm in your prayer life. Perhaps pray this prayer weekly, or seasonally when you sense a burden for Kingdom advancement. Let it shape the focus of your intercession.
